Pixi Skincare Review | Best of Bright

I love when skincare companies released little trial packs. I love spending minimal money to try lots of things out to find out if it's worth buying. This travel sized pack is $22 USD. I think i'll get maybe a month of regular use from each of samples. They're big enough in size to find out how my skin will react. I haven't noticed a huge change in my acne or pih, but I only use these products about once a week for my skin. I like 2/3 products I tried, but I can't say enough for me to buy/regularly incorporate them into my skincare regime. I think there are products here that others would like. This pack makes an awesome gift.

GLOW MUD CLEANSER

Contains 5% glycolic acid. This gentle yet effective cleanser exfoliates to remove dead skin cells and reveal more radiant and healthy skin. Detoxes pores and deep cleans by drawing out impurities.

I was not a a fan of this cleanser. The fact that it contains mud seems cool, but I find it kind of gimmicky. This cleanser didn't leave my skin feeling clean. Have you ever use a mud face mask and it left a ton of a gross feeling residue/layer that you felt inclined to wash your face with a cleanser. This does that. In fact, I had to wash my face twice just to remove the layer it left. It's thick, smelling and feeling similar to a fragranced clay mask. It does give a bit of a cooling sensation. It doesn't bubble much. I think it cleans, but not as much as I would like.

GLOW TONIC

Exfoliating toner with 5% glycolic acid. Evens out skintone for a brighter, clearer, smoother complexion. Alcohol free. Contains fragrance.

I don't use this regularly. Deciem is not convinced that daily use of acid peels are good for skin. I really consider that. They say that use of acids cause inflammatory effects that can contribute to accelerated aging. Paula Begoun of Paula's Choice however, speaks very highly of acids.
So I limit use. I use this maybe 2-3 a week. I haven't noticed much difference in my skin but i'm sure it's working. I've had no breakouts or purging. It feels very dry (not much slip or emoliency). It quickly absorbs into skin which I LOVE. I only dislike the very strong old lady perfume fragrance. Why Pixi, it was almost perfect!!!

GLOW MUD MASK

Deep pore clearing, glow-revealing treatment mask. Great for congested, dull and tired skin. Contains ale, ginseng and various muds.

I think this is a great alternative to the expensive Glamglow masks. The colour is oddly satisfying and looks just like the Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment. In fact, I think it works the exact same. I can't tell a difference. I don't ever notice huge skin improvements from incorporating a mask into my skincare regime. I think they're best for people with oily skin or large pores. I limit use of masks because I find they dry out my already drier skin. This one is actually not that drying which is nice. I use this about once a week or just on pimples to 'make them smaller'. I have no idea if it works but I like to think it detoxes my pimples. Like many face masks, this leaves a bit of a residue. It also makes your face smell like the floral fragrance it contains. I'm not a mud mask person but this is nice other than the fragrance!

You can buy these products on the Pixi website, Ulta, Sephora AU, ASOS or at Shoppers Drugmart in Canada.

PIXI MATTE LAST LIQUID LIP IN REALLY ROSE | Best Drugstore Matte Liquid Lipstick Ever!?

I'm SO impressed with this liquid lipstick. I find a lot of drugstore priced liquid lipsticks are duds. Not this one. I find it very long wearing. I would wear this everyday the shade I had was more wearble in colour.

This applies like a super opaque lipstick lipstick. It dries down to be tacky, but not so tacky that if you press your lips together it peels the layer off. It does transfer and isn't super difficult to wipe off. I don't get a feeling of burning lips or dry lips at all. I love that the fragrance is almost undetectable and yummy (candycane?).

$14 USD is a little bit of a steep price, but I think it's worth to spend a little more at the drugstore to get a good liquid lipstick. It's also a lot cheaper than the average $25 liquid lipstick at Sephora.

You can buy this lipstick at Shoppers Drugmart in Canada, Target, Ulta or the Pixi Website.

NYX AWAY WE GLOW HIGHLIGHTER IN CRYSTAL GLARE | SWATCH & REVIEW

The Nyx Away We Glow Highlighters come in 9 gorgeous that, all of which are paraben free and cruelty free. I've been enjoying using this liquid highlighter for when I want an intense more wet looking glow. It's gorgeous. It's glowiness is a step under the Coverfx Custom Enhancer Drops. I would describe it's formula as 1 part an average liquid highlighter, 1 part gel. It's thicker than a liquid. It almost feels dry to blend. Like every liquid highlighter i've used on top of foundation, after a few hours my foundation starts to disappear. For me to love this highlighter, i'd like it to be a little easier to blend. It dries fast. I know the foundation disappearing thing is a fact of a liquid highlight. If you want an affordable highlighter that doesn't do that, NYX has some of great options.

You can buy this palette for $7 USD or $10 CAD at Ulta, the Nyx website or in their store.

Swatch & Review | NYX Contour Intuitive Palette in Amplify

This is a NYX product that seems to be overlooked. It's fairly new, but we haven't heard much about it. There are 5 totally different palettes available. This one is not the most cohesive one, meaning if you were to use everything in it in one look, there's potential that you'd look a little crazy.

Regardless, the performance of this palette pleasantly surprised me. Everything feels a little hard and doesn't have mind blowing swatches but the performance of the majority of this palette was on point. I compared the vibrant aquamarine colour to a similar one in my Viseart palette, and they looked very similar in a swatch (see video). There is minimal fallout throughout the palette which is nice. In the eyeshadow section of the palette, I would say the top right shade was a dud. The similarly coloured pink highlighter was far better, so I use that instead (see purple look). Everything else was good. Everything lasted well. I will say always an eyeshadow primer or decent concealer! Thee shadows call for it especially.

This palette includes:
A pink-champagne duo chrome highlight
A pale blue highlighter
A rose pink (matte)
An aquamarine eyeshadow (matte)
A cream white eyeshadow (matte)
A soft pink eyeshadow (dusty glitter)
A pale dusty purple (matte)
A royal purpose (shimmer)
A neutral dark brown (matte)

You can buy this palette for $20 USD or $22 CAD at Ulta, the Nyx website or in their store.

NEW Real Techniques Blend + Blur Collection Review & Video

Check out my video to see these in action, hear more of my thoughts and recommendations.

I've been using these brushes that just launched by Real Techniques for over a week. These are dense and soft so give a super even, streak-free application. They really work makeup into the skin. My pores look smaller when I apply foundation with them. The name blend and blur fits!

To recap on my first impression video, I really like these brushes for foundation application. Out of the collection, my favorites in order are the foundation brush, the contour brush and the all over brush. I don't like the shadow brush for eyeshadow application or the cheek brush for blush application (that brush is meant for blending blush out though).

These brushed are well made and feel quality. I don't feel like the handles will break. There's been no shedding at all. I wanted to edit these images so bad so that the brushes looked clean. This is a design issue. These brushes were used and then washed with soap. The foundation and concealer that I got on them stayed on them as we can see. Alcohol or makeup remover would clean that, but I need to show reality. The last thing I want to mention is that because these brushes are so densely packed, I notice that when I washed them with soap, within minutes, the soap would seep back up from deep down in the bristles.  This means, i'll have to rinse them twice. This is a common problem I notice with my dense foundation brushes. If you're a 'clean freak', these brushes might drive you crazy for the reasons mentioned above. Otherwise, these seem to be a good alternative to the crazy expensive Artis brushes.

All in all, i'll continue to reach for the foundation, all over and contour brush on the regular.

Blend + Blur All Over - $25 CAD/$20 USD

Blend + Blur Foundation - $25 CAD/$20 USD

Blend + Blur Contour - $21.78 CAD/$17 USD

Blend + Blur Cheek - $21.78 CAD/$17 USD

Blend + Blur Shadow - $16.65 CAD - $13 USD

You can buy these brushes at Ulta or the Real Techniques website.

Pixi + ItsJudyTime Palette | Review & Swatch Video

I've been watching It's Judy Time for a while. I think it's so cool that Pixi choose to do a collab with her. This was an exciting product for me to try since I love every kind of eyeshadow and i've never tried Pixi makeup.

This palette includes super wearable shades. Most of them feel super buttery and soft, with the exception of the 3 darkest colours, which feel harder and dryer, especially the black colour.

I really like the colour selection. To my mild disappointment, the palette is missing a highlighting shade for lighter skintones. The first two shades are both golds that would work as a highlight for darker skintones. This is always a peeve of mine because then need to search for a different eyeshadow in my collection to highlight with. I had this problem with the ABH Master Palette.

Although this is a drugstore palette, it's priced between drugstore and Sephora, costing $24 USD and $30 CAD.  To put that into perspective, you get 12 eyeshadows that are 1.2 gram per pan (a little less than makeup geek). Each colour would cost about $2.50 CAD or $2 USD each. Not bad!

Overall, i'll say this is a very forgiving palette and very beginner friendly.

I have a video on my Instagram makeup tutorial using this palette. The video below shows how the shadows swatch and look in certain lighting.

You can find out more about this palette here, at the Pixi website. You can buy this palette at Target. I think select Shoppers Drugmart's in Canada sell it, but i'm not sure.

Murad Skincare Review | Moisturizer, Night Cream & Chemical Peel

I'm very excited to share about these Murad products i've tested for a month. I was given the opportunity to choose products from Murad to blog about (lucky me!). I literally scanned every product they had and the ingredients in them. I always pay close attention to skincare ingredients because I can see the quality of a product, if it will be effective and determine if it will cause me acne. I avoid parabens, pore-clogging ingredients or too many cheap ingredients like mineral oil etc.

Not considering how expensive a product was, I was most interested in the products listed below. Not only were they best for my skin concerns, but they had effective ingredients, were paraben free, had positive reviews and had no unnecessary cheap/filler ingredients. Murad has a small selection of products that seemed average to me and a larger selection of good products but these were stand out products I noticed. I was provided 3 of the products listed below, and it seems I was right in my thinking. They're awesome. Pricey, but I feel are worth it. I've never had products give me what they claim to do without issues. No acne at all.
  1. Advanced Active Radiance Serum
  2. Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture
  3. Complete Reform
  4. Transforming Powder
  5. City Skin Overnight Detox Moisturizer
  6. Rapid Resurfacing Peel Wipes
This is $78 CAD on Murad Canada.

This is the best moisturizer i've used to date. It's a very moisturizing moisturizer -ha. It's creamy and emollient without being greasy. It's more emollient than the City Skin Overnight Detox Moisturizer, which is thicker and less slippery. Unlike many moisturizers i've tried, this one doesn't dry down to a hard glycerin layer or 'pill'. It doesn't break me out or aggravate acne at all. Also, it's fragrance free.

I love this because it quenches my skin, soaking into it. I apply this under my eyes and on my face right after i've washed it and before foundation application. I think of it as a coating of protection.

They need to change the packaging on this product though. According to Beautypedia, the antioxidants break down when introduced to air. Not sure how I much I buy that, but it is less sanitary to scoop product out. Also, there's a lot of plastic to house this cream...

This is $90 CAD on Murad Canada.

I like to put a generous layer of this moisturizer on my skin before bed to wake up to supple feeling skin. This is a night cream, but you can definitely use it in the day as well. Because it's a heavier cream, I apply this where I could use extra moisture - on dry patches of skin. I prefer the Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture over this texture-wise, because it's lighter. But like I said, this is a night cream - and a good one! Full of ingredients that are good for skin. I don't notice much of a fragrance either which is awesome.

The packaging on this moisturizer is a HUGE WIN. You push down on a button and it dispenses cream. So useful! There is no contamination with this design.

This is $55 CAD on Murad Canada.

These are ideal for people with rough skin, an uneven complexion or dark spots.

I was scared to use these. I know glycolic acid could either go good or bad for skin. There's a concept called purging, where chemical exfoliation brings all your deep pimples to the surface, mimicking a breakout. I don't know if it's legit but a lot of people complain about it happening. I was also afraid the alcohol in this would break me out or dry out my skin.

But none of those bad things happened. Instead, they made my skin super smooth and a little brighter just like they claimed to do!

These were a joy to use. I love the texture of their solution. It's super slippery, instead of dry like I thought it would be. It totally glides on the skin. It's very hard to describe but they leave a super satisfying wet layer on the skin that dries down to a tacky feeling. I notice maybe a little sting where I have a micro wound on my skin. This is totally normal. The wipes are textured which is perfect because they remove the top layer of dead skin cells so that the product can work more deeply.

I get 3 uses out of every wipe. That's 48 treatments for me. I cut my wipe in 3 pieces. That's all I need to completely saturate my face. I put back what I haven't used, bending back down the opening and securing it with 2 bobby pins. I alternate using these every 2 days as I don't want to overdo it.

If you have sensitive skin or have never used chemical exfoliation in your life, these are probably not for you. They weren't too strong for my skin but were effective. My skin has experienced more mild chemical exfoliates before so that might be why I had no problems.

Wet n Wild Perfect Pout Gel Lip Liner | Swatch & Review

As the name implies, this lip liner is a gel formula. That means it glides on lips kind of like a matte lipstick. I love these for my dry lips. I usually put a lip balm under lipsticks anyways for added emolliency. Now I can just use these and get some opacity for my lips. These are not ideal under the Wet n Wild Catsuit Liquid Lipsticks. Think of painting a wall that has been smeared with Vaseline-it won't adhere. The second you press your lips together with those two products on, I found the liquid lipstick 'tears off'. That's a problem with their liquid lipsticks though as these have been fine under other liquid lipsticks. More on those lipsticks to come.

There are 6 shades. Shown above are Plum Together, Red the Scene, Bare To Comment & Think Flamingos.

You get 0.25g for $3 USD. I'm not sure how much in CAD. You can find these at the Wet n Wild website, Walmart etc.

Sukin Moisture Restoring Night Cream

This cream is pretty on par with my beloved Mychelle Supreme Polypeptide CreamI love that cream, but it's not cheap in price. I discovered this cream at Winners for $13 CAD. It feels amazing. I really love it, but stopped using it (along with all my other creams) because i've been breaking out from everything lately. I'm suspicious this cream very mildly breaks me out. My skin is super weird and heavy creams tend to be bad for me. I nevertheless highly recommend this because:
  • It's super thick and whipped
  • Very moisturizing
  • Leaves my skin feeling moisturized but not greasy
  • Doesn't 'pill'.
  • Smell freaking amazing- natural and vanilla
  • Comprised of naturally super moisturizing ingredients like Cocoa Seed Butter, Shea Butter, Rose Hip and Evening Primrose Oil etc.

Discovering Vasanti Cosmetics

Vasanti is a brand I know from visiting the makeup isles in Rexall. They are a Canadian brand that manufactures their products here in Germany and Canada. They're cruelty free, paraben free and have many vegan products. Yay!!! After playing around with everything, I have to say i'm very impressed with the performance of their makeup. The only thing I can see improvement in what's mentioned below, is the plastic packaging on the eyeliner and concealer as it feels and looks cheap. Normally I wouldn't bring this up, but since their price range is Sephora/Department store, I think people will care more about that. Some people buy for the luxurious feel. Everything else looks great. And the products perform very well.

MATTE CRUSH LIPSTICK PENCIL - IT'S YOUR MAUVE
$23 CAD
This is an absolutely amazing lipstick. You can see in my demo how easy it is to get an opaque colour payoff. It's super creamy so bound to slip around if you're not careful. You can blot or set it. Absolutely love it! Vasanti needs more light nude shades for pale skin so I can buy a shade I love!

KAJAL WATERLINE PENCIL KHOL - BLACK
$19 CAD
Great performance comes from this eyeliner. It actually stays very well on my waterliner. It's super creamy so not much pressure is needed for it to apply to your skin. It sets down to be budge-proof. My only qualm is the packaging. It's wobbily and the cap is way too tight. For that price, i'd like to see more luxurious packaging.

WONDERS OF THE WORLD CONCEALER DUO - A2
$26 CAD
This concealer duo is ideal for covering blue discoloration under your eyes. I'm about an NC15 and their A2 duo matches me well. This concealer does a very good job at covering and looks natural. I like it. Be sure to set your crease lines with powder or else it will crease. Downside is I find the packaging a little challenging to open and looks a little cheap.

You can buy all these products at the Vasanti website or at select Rexall stores.
